My boyfriend is out of town for the next two weeks. One of my requirements or "duties" was to pick a photographer I really admire and try to replicate a photo of theirs. I have many. Some of them also shoot dogs and animals as well as people and other "things" involved.
In April, I volunteered for a Photo Festival in Palm Springs for the second time. It truly is a magical time full of meeting other photographers, learning, and most importantly being inspired. On the last night of the week long festival at one of the evening presentations, Roger Ballen, whom I never heard of before, showed everyone his photographs and talked about them in detail. I was floored- in a really good way! Ballen has a very unique, strange taste which I fell in love with immediately-it is not for everyone. Residing in South Africa, he sees a different side of society; the people, the pets and the living- I absolutely love it! I too, love pets of all kinds, different looking people, dollies and not the average scenery or environment.
So, in the next two weeks, I'm am going to reproduce a photo that is inspired by Roger Ballen. Wish me luck!
